Colleges welcome increase, bicker over plan

After years of cuts the state's 15 public universities would ge about $28.4 million -- a 2% increase - under Gov. Granholm's plan. The state's big three research universities - Michigan State , WSU, and U of M - would receive 2% because of their contributions to research, technology transfer and the state's economy. That made the smaller universities angry because most would receive less under the proposed budget.
